The Afro Women and Youth Foundation presents The crafts for Mental Health (CMH) summer program. The AWYF is partnering with the Sudbury Workers Education & Advocacy Centre to offer a free Summer Program for youth ages 9 -16, to come together and learn, create, and activate healthy skills to improve self-care and mental health.
Crafts for Mental Health (CMH), is a free Summer Program coordinated by The Afro Women And Youth foundation (AWYF) in collaboration with the Sudbury Workers Education and Advocacy Centre (SWEAC), funded through the Arts and Culture grant of the City of Greater Sudbury.
Over the course of four Saturday 3-hour workshops young artists, aged 9-16, came together and learned how to seek, find, and utilize resources related to mental health, workplaces, and support. They met with talented local BIPOC artists who facilitated each session.
Participants learn and practice a variety of artistic skills, and take part in the careful practices of African cultural beading, poetry craft basic sewing, painting, tie-dye, and basic make-up skills.
All participants share creative work and talk about their experience at an “Open Mic” final.
